In the near future, most city buses in Almaty will switch from diesel fuel to natural gas. The project is implemented by the national company QazaqGaz together with the administration of the city Almaty. According to the report on Channel 24KZ, gas buses are considered to be cheaper and environmentally friendly as the initiators explain.
New specialized gas stations will also be opened. Soon, all Almaty buses that service city lines daily will enter the category of environmentally friendly vehicles. The national company QazaqGaz has been dealing with this problem for more than a year. It is planned to use compressed natural gas instead of diesel fuel. Sanzhar Zharkeshev, chairman of the board of the national gas company QazaqGaz comments: “Commercial gas is transported
through main gas pipelines, then gas distribution networks are laid inside main gas pipelines, then gas distribution networks are laid inside the settlements. Through these networks, gas is supplied to these CNG filling stations and compressed 200 times on site ready to supply gas buses.” To date, 4 automobile gas-filling compressor stations operate in Almaty. The fifth station is launched in September this year. Two more will appear in the next two years.
